Live · presentation mode

Measurement data in motion.

This is how the new Sensormanager presents your monitoring network in presentation mode: groundwater contours in time-lapse, the radar gauge during flood and drought, the reservoir in cross-section, the control room view, and climate and water quality as tiles. The show runs by itself – as soon as you touch a control, you take over.

Browser demo with simulated time series – no customer data, no official values. Flow directions are shown schematically. In Sensormanager the same views are calculated from your real monitoring stations.

Three areas. One connected workflow.

From day-to-day operations and specialist analysis to documentation, Sensormanager brings the tasks around your monitoring network together.

01 · Operations

02 · Specialist modules

The right perspective for your monitoring task.

Ten specialist modules complement operations – from groundwater contour maps to abstraction balances. Choose a module to see what it calculates, which parameters it needs and which TerraTransfer equipment fits.

Contour map for a reference date

Groundwater

Individual monitoring wells become a spatial picture: groundwater contours for a reference date, difference maps between two dates and depth to water from the terrain model. Flow direction and gradient are derived from the interpolated surface.

What the module does

  • Contour map using IDW, thin-plate spline or kriging (including terrain drift), with uncertainty display
  • Difference maps for drawdown, wells with cones of depression, rivers as fixed-head boundaries
  • Trends over 30 and 90 days (Theil–Sen, Mann–Kendall), key statistics per DIN 4049, SGI
  • Export as PDF map, CSV, GeoJSON and shapefile (ETRS89/UTM 32N); manual dip-meter readings via import

Required parameters

Groundwater level at ≥ 3 wellsElevation master dataoptional manual dip readings

Reports

Monitoring report (dewatering)Annual groundwater reportWell data sheet
Annual volume vs. permit

Abstraction balance

The module takes you from the permit to the annual declaration: assign abstraction points, set up monitoring and keep track of the permitted volumes at all times – with a projection to the end of the year.

What the module does

  • Step by step: record permit → assign abstraction points → monitoring → annual declaration
  • Annual, daily and hourly limits with levels within limits, watch (from 80 %) and critical (from 95 %)
  • Projection from the 30-day mean and permitted volume per day until year end
  • Ancillary conditions such as a minimum groundwater level at a monitoring well; advance warning before the permit expires

Required parameters

Meter reading or pulsesoptional groundwater level

Reports

Abstraction report (water rights)
From water level to discharge

Gauges and discharge

Water level becomes discharge: rating curves with versions and validity periods, discharge measurements for comparison and a low-flow overview with flow duration curve and drought context.

What the module does

  • Rating curve as power, log or linear relation, limited extrapolation with flag
  • Discharge measurements with deviation from the curve and a proposal for a new rating
  • Low-flow statistics NQ, MNQ, NM7Q, MNM7Q (DIN 4049-3) and Q95
  • Classes low, very low, extremely low; context from SPI-3 and groundwater (SGI)

Required parameters

Water level with rating curveor discharge measurement

Reports

Low-flow report
Alert levels across the catchment

Flood

The flood overview brings together all gauges in a catchment: alert level, trend and data age at a glance, plus a 48-hour forecast with uncertainty band and the time until the next level.

What the module does

  • Alert levels 1–3 with hold time and hysteresis on the way down; alarm rules per level created automatically
  • Forecast from the rainfall–runoff core, forecast rainfall classified with KOSTRA
  • Radar nowcast, event log and time travel with hindcast for quality checks
  • Retention basins with fill level and time to full

Required parameters

Water level (radar or pressure probe)Catchment rainfall or forecastoptional basin level

Measured vs. modelled

Rainfall–runoff model

A conceptual rainfall–runoff model runs alongside your gauge every hour and calibrates itself in the background. The result is a 48-hour forecast with uncertainty band – including a quality record.

What the module does

  • Measured vs. modelled hydrograph, 48 h forecast with band and time to the alert level
  • Automatic calibration with split sample; NSE, KGE, RMSE, PBIAS
  • Scenarios: dry, stress test or real weather forecast; KOSTRA classification of forecast rainfall
  • HBV/GR4J-class model with antecedent precipitation index, Nash cascade and snow module

Required parameters

Water level at the gaugeRainfalloptional temperature, evaporation, soil moisture

Beta · The forecast is not an official warning.

Storage balance and release

Reservoir

Storage, flood retention and release in context: the overview shows water level, storage, fill level, inflow and release, and derives the retention readiness with a release stage.

What the module does

  • Storage balance from inflow, release, spillway (Poleni), evaporation and lake precipitation
  • 48 h forecast with adjustable planned release and rainfall scenario, time to full supply
  • Seasonal target level, storage curve, ice cover from the thermistor chain
  • Release log with justification; reservoir cross-section in presentation mode

Required parameters

Water levelInflowReleaseoptional rainfall, thermistor chain

Classifying events

Heavy rain

Classify heavy rain in space and time: every rain gauge is assessed over eleven durations using KOSTRA-DWD-2020, and events can be replayed as a map animation – complemented by a radar nowcast.

What the module does

  • Classification by return period (KOSTRA-DWD-2020) from 5 minutes to 72 hours
  • Heavy rain index SRI 1–12 per DWA-M 119, nowcast warning levels 15 / 25 / 40 mm/h
  • RADOLAN radar with about 2 h of observations and 2 h nowcast, rain field from the network
  • List of the strongest events, heavy-rain hazard map as a map layer

Required parameters

Rainfall (tipping bucket)optional gauge, culvert backwater

Reports

Heavy rain event report

KOSTRA is available for sites in Germany; hazard areas are not official.

Temperature and oxygen over depth

Stratification

How do temperature and oxygen change with depth and time? The module detects the thermocline and stagnation and estimates when critical oxygen levels will be reached in the deep water.

What the module does

  • Heatmap of depth over time, depth profile and longitudinal section
  • Thermocline, stratification regime, Schmidt stability, heat content, ice days
  • Deep-water oxygen with trend and days until below 2 mg/l; measured or modelled
  • Recommendation for the withdrawal level; warnings flow into the alarm module

Required parameters

Thermistor chain with ≥ 8 depthsoptional dissolved oxygen

Without oxygen sensors, oxygen is modelled and labelled as such.

Assessing parameters together

Water quality

View and classify different quality parameters together: map with traffic lights, assessment against the relevant regulation and time series – from rivers to raw drinking water.

What the module does

  • Regulation per station type: GrwV (groundwater), OGewV with fish region, TrinkwV 2023 (raw water)
  • Assessment based on the seasonal mean, trophic state and nitrate traffic light, oxygen daily cycle
  • Conductivity referenced to 25 °C, NH₄/NH₃ conversion, table of daily means
  • Calibration reminders for sensors and one-click alarm rules

Required parameters

e.g. O₂, conductivity, pH, turbidity, nitrate, chlorophyllTemperature

Assessment close to German LAWA practice; not a substitute for official classification.

Putting weather into context

Climate & weather

How is the current year developing? Climate index days, monthly statistics and the comparison with the 1991–2020 climate normal show it – complemented by the climatic water balance and drought indices.

What the module does

  • Climate index days per DWD, monthly statistics and comparison with the 1991–2020 normal
  • Climatic water balance with evaporation per FAO-56 or Haude, SPI and SPEI
  • Heatwaves, heating and cooling degree days (VDI 3807), wind rose and trends
  • One-click heat warning rule; presentation view with warming stripes

Required parameters

Air temperatureRelative humidityoptional rainfall, wind, radiation

Reports

Annual climate report

Short series describe the weather; climate statements need at least 30 years.

Preview of the current development stage. Available analyses depend on measurement data, configuration and activation of the relevant module. Forecasts and assessments support decisions; they are not official warnings or expert reports.

Groundwater

Groundwater contours reveal the gradient.

Individual monitoring points become a spatial picture: groundwater contours connect points of equal hydraulic head on a selected date. Flow arrows illustrate the gradient derived from the interpolated surface.

  • Select the reference date and aquifer
  • Review the monitoring points and interpolation method used
  • Export the contour map as a PDF and geodata for further analysis

The map interpolates between monitoring points. Its reliability depends on factors including station density, elevation reference and hydrogeological conditions.

Climate & weather

Put weather into context. Recognise patterns.

How does this year compare with the previous one? The climate and weather module brings together threshold-day counts, annual curves and monthly statistics, including summer, hot and frost days.

  • Compare threshold-day counts and cumulative annual curves
  • Keep monthly statistics and data gaps in view
  • Assess temperature, precipitation and other available measurements

Short measurement series describe weather patterns. Long-term climate conclusions require a suitably long and appropriate dataset.
